Did you just take something out of my bag???

We were just finishing our morning tour in front of St Stephen's Cathedral. It is Good Friday and was very busy in the huge square in the middle of historical Vienna. I have been conscious of crowds after previous experience so had my backpack in front of me the whole time. In spite of that, I felt a slight jostle and looked down to see the open zipper. I noticed an older woman walking away from me and felt certain she had taken something. She walked away quickly so I started after her checking my backpack at the same time. As I hurried behind her, I called out: "Did you take something out of my bag?" By then I realized my wallet was missing and called again, Did you take my wallet? Catching up to her,  I got hold of her shoulder and stepped in front of her. She simply opened her folded newspaper and there was  my wallet. She must have decided it was easier to just give it up somehow knowing that I was just pondering whether to call out for the police.
Pat had noticed that I left our group and was heading off the opposite direction so told Ron that something was wrong. Ron caught up to me and as I stood holding my wallet, we both turned around to see she had disappeared!
I am so relieved not to have to deal with stolen drivers license and credit cards and have now retired the guilty backpack and am carrying only chewing gum.....
