Moving Day

Our walking tour yesterday had a strict timeline. We were warned that we had to be back on board by 5:45 if we wanted to stay on our cruise. It was our first moving day with the ship leaving Budapest and setting off for Vienna. It will be a 24 hour trip and will include our first of the 69 locks ahead of us. The movement of the ship is practically imperceptible. The river is flat if running fast and the only way we know we are moving is watching the shore go by.
We were woken up 6:00 am by loud clunks and scrapes. It took us a minute to realize it was the sound of the walls of the first lock closing, followed by rushing water as the lock filled. The early morning was crisp but sunny and we sat in the forward lounge until breakfast. The morning also included the required life drill involving trooping up to the sun deck in our life jackets for roll call.

Now a day of forced relaxation.
