A Day in Budapest

We were up early to a breakfast buffet that is clearly going to be a challenge every morning. Or easy to justify - we are going to be doing a lot of walking, right?? So maybe we will have the eggs benedict today and the French toast tomorrow along with sampling the buffet table. As our resistance drops, the chef slides into the dining room with some special Easter bread he made just for today. He grins at each one of us individually as he deftly chooses just a little slice....
Our scheduled tour of the city's highlights started at 8:30 so we picked up our boarding passes for our return, our bus number, and our special listening device wired to hear our guide even in a crowd, and off we go.
Our guide managed to teach us 1000 years of history as our bus driver maneuvered our huge coach through the city. We are now aware of the clear distinction between Pest (pronounced Pesht) and Buda. Our guy was clearly a Pesht man and had lots to say about Bad Buda...
We talked to our guide after the tour and he told us he has a Mechanical Engineers Degree but guiding makes more money in this city.
Home by noon for a light lunch before strapping on our runners and walking off the ship for our own excursion down some of the streets we'd driven past in the morning.
Distances became clear as we walked and eventually we dropped down into the metro for a ride. The metro is the second-oldest in Europe (London first) but the first electric (London used horses).
