Nuremberg - a surprise.

St Lawrence Cathedral
Nuremberg has worked hard on rebuilding both the city and her reputation after WWII. Like much of Germany and Austria, the first few years after the war meant keeping the Nazi era under wraps - better not to talk or learn about it. This began to change in the 70’s and now for example, the whole grade 9 history curriculum is studying the nazi era.

We are moored in the industrial docks for the first time and so took a shuttle bus into town this morning for a self-guided tour. This afternoon we were on a guided tour with a fellow with a history degree and member of a society of historians who are trying to make history accessible. It was great

This time, St Lawrence! The incredible medieval art was hidden in bunkers  and now is back home.
What luck we're having! Easter weekend brought organ and choral music in virtually every church we visited, And today, the organist is rehearsing for an upcoming concert, So not only could we listen to the sublime music, we could watch him play. I was sorry to leave.
